We think you’ll all agree with us when we say:
Finding the right swimwear is the hardest part of planning a holiday.
Well, it’s actually a lot simpler than you might think. By taking a few moments to pinpoint exactly what you’re looking for in your swimwear, you’ll be able to confidently find the right swimwear for you online!
In this guide, we’ll walk you through all the things you’ll need to consider when choosing your swimwear, from thinking about your body shape to which swimwear will help you achieve the results you want and our top tips for swimwear shopping.
Are you:
Curvy
The first mistake that our ladies make is to rule out bikinis. There’s simply no need! Some bikinis won’t suit, for example those with string ties, but bikinis with wider straps and bright, bold patterns can work beautifully on a plus size body – and we have plenty of bikinis for plus size women at Camille. However, if you’re more comfortable wearing a swimsuit, patterns and ruching work really well, flattering your curves while distracting from areas you’re not so comfortable with. We have some lovely women’s swimwear for larger ladies such as skirted swimsuits.
Athletic
If you have a slim or toned figure, we think you may as well make the most of it and show it off! Athletic figures really suit bikinis in clean and minimalist designs such as triangle bikini tops and tie bottom briefs. If you’re not too worried about tan lines, we also suggest the halterneck swimwear style for athletic ladies!
Do you have:
A Larger Bust
A lot of our ladies come to us looking for swimwear for bigger busts. We’d always recommend that a halter neck is perfect, but an underwire is essential. You need to have the correct support for a larger bust, just as you would with a bra, so look for a full cup and avoid triangle bikini tops. We’d also suggest that you avoid a swimsuit with a high neckline as this can have a really unflattering effect on a large bust!
A Smaller Bust
For ladies with a smaller bust, we recommend looking for a push up bikini with an underwire if you’re looking to make the most of what you have! Little extras such as ruffles or beading or even a bold print can also enhance your bust. Even though it’s often recommended for ladies with a smaller bust as it will hold without support, we’d suggest avoiding the bandeau bikini style as this will flatten your bust.
Would you like to:
Slim Your Hips
If you’re feeling self-conscious about your hips, the temptation may be to buy bigger bikini bottoms to try and cover yourself up. Instead, we suggest getting smaller bikini bottoms with a high waist as this gives illusion of longer legs and draws the eye away from the hip area.
Control Your Stomach
One of the most notorious problem areas for self-confidence, you may be looking for swimwear that will cover your tummy. If this is the case, we’d suggest a full swimsuit rather than a tankini as these can cling to your stomach more than a swimsuit. Choose a swimsuit in a matte material so as to not highlight any lumps and bumps you may be concerned about, and try to choose a swimsuit with a high leg and low top to draw the eye away from your midriff.
-
- Give yourself plenty of time to find the right swimwear, it shouldn’t be a rush.
-
- Don’t shop for swimwear if you’re not feeling your best, you’ll only end up feeling frustrated and you don’t need those negative feelings in your life!
-
- No matter what style you choose, swimwear will always look bad if it’s too tight or too big so take the time to find the right fit.
-
- Make sure you don’t slouch while trying swimwear on. Stand up tall with a good posture and think confidence, confidence, confidence!
- Don’t worry too much about trends, you’re better off finding something that will work for holidays in the future too.
Does this swimwear have padding in the cups?
Some of our swimwear has built-in support for the bust including thinly padded cups for comfort in our swimsuits. However, always check our product descriptions to see if the cups of our bikinis are padded or unpadded.
What should I wear at the beach to feel less self-conscious?
We think that if you have the right swimwear, you should feel confident in your own skin. But if you’d still like to cover up while you’re not in the water, we have some fantastic beach cover ups in our beachwear collection including sarongs and kaftans that will skim over your body and offer a little extra privacy.
Is there such a thing as modest swimwear?
Often our older ladies will look for something with a little more modesty – we’d recommend a skirted swimsuit as this offers you the appearance of a summer dress while still being pool or beach-ready.
Is there a size chart for swimwear?
All of our products at Camille are available with a size guide. Simply click on the product you’d like to view and choose the size guide option next to the ‘Select Size’ drop down box.
